What is a Dramatic Song Recital?

It's an uncommon mixture of drama and chamber music, using songs which were well known and much loved a generation ago.. Demand by the concert going public for performances of early 20th century british songs seems to have dwindled into a nostalgic haze and the Dramatic Song Recital is a daring attempt to revive some of these songs in an entertaining package giving this music a wider hearing and enjoyment. Also, it's an accessible and enjoyable entertainment for young music-theatre lovers, families and people of otherwise good sense, who wouldn’t normally dream of attending a classical recital!

It’s crossover, then. If London’s West End can package and dramatise Abba songs into the amazingly successful “Mamma Mia!” and Queen songs into “We Will Rock You” then we can do same for British art songs? Every song is a mini opera!

With this in mind, we hope you’ll relish our performance of these classic musical seascapes, and embrace with us the wonderful dramatic setting.
